Safety checks inside a rail maintenance depot
A major rail transport group deployed video analytics at a railcar repair depot in the CIS / Asia region. The work was delivered jointly with a local partner. Its purpose was to automate observation of the protective equipment required for the depot’s maintenance activities.
What the cameras checked
- Work jackets and trousers.
- Protective footwear.
- Hard hats and gloves.
- The presence and position of a welding mask.
Checking welding-mask position adds useful context: the required item needs to be in the appropriate position for the activity, rather than simply visible somewhere in the image.
Implementation and response
The solution analysed video streams from the depot to determine whether the required workwear and PPE were present. Violations were registered for operational response and later analysis. A local partner supported the application in the customer’s environment.
Documented result
The completed project transferred key PPE checks into an automated monitoring workflow and provided recorded events for the responsible team.
Applying the experience at another depot
A similar deployment starts with the required equipment for each maintenance task, the relevant workshop zones and camera views that show the necessary detail. Welding activity, occlusion and workers turning away from the camera should be included in acceptance footage. The review procedure defines who checks an event and records corrective action.
