Location: Saudi Arabia / GulfVideo analytics monitors personnel, protective equipment and selected operating activities across five drilling rigs in Saudi Arabia. The deployment brings several safety checks into the rig-floor monitoring workflow.
The operating challenge
A drilling rig brings people, moving equipment and lifting operations into a confined working environment. The customer needed visibility of who was present in defined areas, which personnel groups were involved, whether protective equipment was being worn and whether selected servicing activities took place.
The scope covered five rigs, with video analytics applied to the work being performed at the drilling facilities.
What the system monitors
Personnel inside a defined perimeter
The system counts workers in a specified area. This gives the monitoring team a view of personnel presence within the relevant work perimeter.
Personnel categories
Counts can be separated by the colour of overalls and helmets. These visible workwear attributes provide a way to distinguish personnel groups within the same scene.
Personal protective equipment
Video analytics checks the wearing of PPE. The project screen shows person, helmet and glove detections on the rig floor, illustrating how several checks can be applied to the same camera view.
Top-drive servicing
A separate scenario records the occurrence of servicing activity on the top drive. This adds observation of a specific maintenance activity to the personnel-monitoring scope.
Loading and unloading safety
The project also covers safety monitoring during loading and unloading operations, extending observation beyond personnel presence and PPE to material-handling work.
Deployment scope
The implementation covers five drilling rigs and the five monitoring functions described above. Its practical contribution is a shared video-analytics view of personnel presence, PPE use and selected work activities at these facilities.
