The client

A large regional oil company operating a refinery in the CIS region.

Location: CIS

Existing cameras in indoor production areas and outdoor refinery locations were connected to a common PPE, hazardous-zone and inspection-round monitoring system.

Up to 95%reported violation-detection accuracy

The refinery’s requirement

The task was to automate continuous checks of occupational and industrial safety requirements and provide responsible departments with evidence of detected violations. The implementation combined video analytics, automated reporting and protected storage of image and video material.

A cascade of specialised detectors

The first stage detects people. A further stage identifies the personnel group from the type of workwear. The following checks then assess the PPE required for that group, rather than applying one identical rule to everyone.

The PPE scope includes helmets and chin straps, protective-face-shield position, gloves, trousers and footwear. It also covers whether workwear is fastened and sleeves are rolled up, as well as gas masks, gas-mask bags and gas detectors.

Zones, body position and inspection rounds

Beyond PPE, the implementation monitors inspection rounds and the presence of personnel in hazardous zones. A pose-estimation detector is used to assess body position and the relationship between the person and configured zones.

Detected violations create photo and video records and are sent to responsible departments. The archive and reporting layer support review of incidents as part of the refinery’s operating process.

Adapting the system to the site

The source describes operation with video streams from 640 × 480 pixels and additional training for new PPE elements or types of workwear. The suitability of any individual camera still depends on the required detail, viewing angle and lighting.

Reported result

The deployment brought PPE, zone and inspection-round checks into a shared event and reporting workflow. The project account reports violation-detection accuracy of up to 95% under its stated operating conditions.

This figure is specific to the project and its evaluation approach. The public description discusses reduced supervision effort and production losses as business benefits but does not provide independently quantified savings.
