Compute
Confirm compatible CPU/GPU hardware, driver/runtime versions, model profiles and available memory. Test the selected workload with representative source rates and concurrent scenarios. Record a capacity margin and the behaviour at saturation.
Network and source access
List required connections between cameras, processing nodes, storage, management services and recipients. Confirm DNS, time synchronisation, certificates and access credentials. Keep private endpoints in the delivery configuration.
Storage and retention
Size metadata and media separately. Define evidence formats, retention periods, cleanup rules and backup requirements. Include model packages, scenario versions and reference data in the recovery design.
Operations
- Role ownership and access review.
- Monitoring for streams, processing, storage and failed deliveries.
- Update and rollback procedures.
- Backup schedules and tested restore steps.
- Fault escalation and a representative acceptance dataset.
Acceptance
Check end-to-end event delivery, review workflow, latency, missed/false events and resource use. Record the installed components and configuration so that results can be reproduced after an update.
Workload inputs for sizing
| Input | Units | Main impact |
|---|---|---|
| Simultaneously processed cameras | Count | Active streams |
| Resolution and input rate | Pixels × pixels, FPS | Decoding and frame delivery |
| Analysis rate | FPS per camera | Inference calls |
| Models and input dimensions | Versions, pixels | GPU use, VRAM and latency |
| Bitrate and archive retention | Mbit/s, days | Network and disk storage |
| Events and media clips | Events/hour, MB/event | Databases, storage and integrations |
Continuous archive capacity example
At a constant bitrate of 1 Mbit/s, one stream produces approximately 10.8 GB per day in decimal units. A preliminary estimate excluding overhead is bitrate × 10.8 × camera count × retention days.
V [GB] ≈ B [Mbit/s] × 10.8 × N_cameras × D_days
4 × 10.8 × 10 × 7 = 3024 GBThus, 10 cameras at 4 Mbit/s retained for 7 days produce about 3024 GB of source video. This is a calculation example, not a recommended allocation. Add replication, overhead, temporary files, event media and a free-space reserve.
